The Prophet and the Crying Camel
Week 2 • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ • Madinah
The Story
One day, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was walking past a garden in Madinah when he heard something strange. It wasn't a person crying. It wasn't a child. It was a sound coming from behind the garden wall — deep, heavy, and full of pain.
He looked over the wall and saw a camel. But this camel wasn't standing tall and proud the way camels usually do. Its head was low. Its body was thin. And tears — real tears — were rolling down its face. The Prophet ﷺ stood still. His own eyes filled with tears.
He walked closer and gently placed his hand near the camel's head. The camel made a soft sound — like it was trying to tell him something. The Prophet ﷺ turned to the people nearby and asked: 'Who owns this camel?'
A man came forward. He was the owner. The Prophet ﷺ looked at him — not with anger, but with deep sadness — and said: 'This animal has complained to me. It is overworked and underfed.' The owner's face dropped. He hadn't thought about how his camel felt.
The Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'Fear Allah regarding this animal. Allah has placed it in your care. You are responsible for it.' The man lowered his head. He understood.
The Prophet ﷺ taught us something powerful that day. Animals can't speak our language. They can't ask for help with words. But they feel pain, they feel hunger, and they feel sadness — just like we do. And if a camel's tears can reach the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, then every creature — no matter how small — matters to Allah.
Dua of the Week: Dua for Mercy
اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي وَارْحَمْ جَمِيعَ خَلْقِكَ
Allahumma irhamni warham jamee'a khalqik
"O Allah, have mercy on me and have mercy on all of Your creation."
The Prophet ﷺ showed mercy to a camel that couldn't even speak. This dua asks Allah to put mercy in our hearts — not just for people, but for every living thing He created. When we are kind to animals, we are following the Prophet's example.
Quran Verse: Surah Al-An'am 6:38
"There is no creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its wings, but they are communities like you. We have not neglected anything in the Book. Then to their Lord they will be gathered."
Family Discussion
The camel couldn't talk, but the Prophet ﷺ still understood its pain. Have you ever seen an animal that looked sad or hurt? What did you do? What could you do next time you see an animal in need?
Good Deed Challenge
This week, show mercy to an animal. If you see a stray cat, leave it some water. If you see a bird, put out some seeds. If you have a pet, give it extra love and care. And if you see someone being unkind to an animal, speak up — just like the Prophet ﷺ did.
